| FAQ's
Here you'll find updates on future plans and projects. For more details, check out the blog, Under the Maine Sun. (Access from the sidebar).
Q: So you're going to flip houses?
A: No. I'm going to find old houses with good bones that have fallen on hard times. With care, quality workmanship and good taste, I'm going to give them a new life, turning them back into inviting shelters for a future generation or two. I do plan to fix them up and resell them, but not in assembly line fashion. By doing so, I hope to help improve neighborhoods as well.
Q: Do you hope to make a profit?
A: Yes.
Q: Where do you plan to do this?
A: In Western North Carolina -- the Asheville - Hendersonville area. In fact, I've already bought the first house there in Mountain Home - a suburb of Hendersonville. That's the one I plan to live in -- at least for awhile. I also bought a second one, rehabbed it into a beautiful doll house -- a real jewel. That one is in Hendersonville itself. It's waiting for a buyer to discover it.
Q: When will you begin work on the one where you will live?
A: Some repair work and a new well have already been done. But the major work can't begin until I sell my house in Maine.
Q: What will you do when you sell your house?
A: Move to the new old house in North Carolina, send it to Elizabeth Arden for a few months (thanks Suzanne Brangham for that thought). But first, I'll have to buy, fix up and sell a couple of smaller houses along the way to finance making the first house livable. I'll probably live in that house for a few years before selling that one, too, but already I'm becoming attached to my good neighbors there. The cats will love it.
Q: When will you buy another house?
A: That's already in process. I've bought a small house in Hendersonville at auction -- just waiting to close. It, too will be sent to Elizabeth Arden for a makeover, then put back on the market -- probably in April, 2011. You can check it's progress on my blog.
Q: Will there be another book?
A: Possibly. I'll probably write it, but I won't publish it. Won't have time. Too busy renovating.
UNDER THE MAINE SUN is the BLOG that will provide a venue to write some of my thoughts and experiences as they happen and for others to comment and share ideas. The current focus is on renovating the smaller house and how it will enhance the progress of the 1914 house that I will eventually live in. Access it from the sidebar.
